Numeracy at Northumberland PRU
Numeracy plays a key part in every aspect of our modern world, no matter what you might be doing! From calculating costs of plane tickets and arranging flight times and connections to converting currency or the weight of luggage; we use numeracy in every aspect of our lives at work, at play and in practical everyday activities at home and beyond.
Here at Northumberland PRU, we recognise that having a solid grasp on numeracy is important to living an independent life. Good numeracy is essential to us. Decisions in life are so often based on numerical information: to make the best choices, we need to be numerate.
The aim of Northumberland PRU is to raise the standards of numeracy of all of its students, so that they develop the ability to use numeracy skills effectively in all areas of the curriculum and the skills necessary to confidently cope with the demands of further education, employment and adult life. To achieve this, we will work tirelessly to improve levels of numeracy across the school and create a more positive ‘can-do’ attitude to maths and numeracy.
“Good numeracy is the best protection against unemployment, low wages and ill health.”
Andreas Scheicher – Education Director, OCED, 2013
